jannelPERSONALITYIan is a brash, outspoken guy with a knack, almost a gift, for saying
exactly what's on his mind without second thought. He's unashamed of his crude mouth, which has both made him lots of friends and lots of enemies, and is willing to back up any statement he's said in an argument or fight. He has a tendency of letting his love of all things feminine and expensive get in the way of anything else of importance, but somehow he's (usually) able to pull through by the skin of his teeth and make the grade. He's not a very emotional sort of guy, and therefore doesn't do well in relationships, tending to have flings and casual encounters rather than the sort of thing that could be looked at as permanent. Being Prom King didn't appeal to him in the least- Even with varsity soccer and track wins under his belt from high school and a hefty social life, he's never had the desire to be known for being 'popular' or 'the boy most like to succeed'. If he were to be remembered for anything, actually, it would be his snarky humor, quick wit, and charm for the sake of a good lay, not for his accomplishments (or lack thereof). He's a party animal, a drinker and habitual smoker, a camera whore and a bed-jumper, a bit on the cocky side, and spoiled rotten by his parents, being the only child and a male.
QUIRKS: Curses like a sailor, smokes pot, religiously showers twice a day, only wears Burberry cologne, voice deepens when he's pissed off or aroused, used to be in band, wears contacts, pulls on his earlobe when he's nervous, has always wanted a younger sibling and hates being the only child, prefers the smell of grass and sweat on a girl to perfume.
HISTORYThe biography of Ian Trent Michaels is a lot simpler than one might think when they meet him, because as 'complicated' as someone might think he is, he's anything but. His parents met years before they had him on an Army base in Seoul, Korea, married, and moved from station to station until they settled down in Atlanta, Georgia. Not soon after, they had Ian, and instantly began spoiling the boy, moving into a bigger house with a backyard, buying him a dog, and enrolling him into Catholic school until he turned 8. He, of course, hated Catholic school, mostly due to the uniforms, so instead his mother (begrudgingly) allowed him to go to public school, where young Ian flourished, managing to stay above a C+ on his reports and fitting in rather easily to the lifestyle of the typical Atlanta native. He listened to hip hop religiously, wore preppy threads with Nikes and Adidas, and ate at Sonic and Waffle House at least twice a week. It was during these years, however, that his home life became less than perfect- his father was sent on a four year tour to Belgium, his dog was hit by a car (and callously, instead of consoling the boy, his mother merely shrugged it off and told him to buy a new one or let it go), and he began dabbling in rather illegal and unhealthy activities. He was arrested once at the age of 12 for attempting to assault an officer, cut class almost every day, and began not only smoking pot, but dealing it to make his own cash. This series of unfortunate events put a heavy strain on the relationship between himself and his mother; consequently, Ian developed rather bad habits, mostly when it came to women. He found that detaching himself from people or emotions worked best in protecting him against her cutting words or the absence of his father, and this mindset was and is something that he maintains, even today. Still, his saving grace came in the form of his father's reenlistment and his family's relocation to Arlington, TX.
It was in Arlington that Ian grew and matured to the man he is today, mostly due to the influences of the people he associated himself with. He fit quite easily into the popular crowd, especially after he joined track and soccer, and managed to have one relationship that lasted half of sophomore year before he cheated. He had best friends, an enemy or two, but took his anger towards his parents and turned it towards something constructive- charming his way into every pair of panties he could. He was almost pathetically proud of his conquests, putting in time and effort, or sometimes, not spending much energy at all, and
still reaping the benefits. It was also in Arlington, though, that Ian met Jannel Chase (
jannel), an Austin transplant who had recently lost her father and was carrying that weight behind a beautifully optimistic mask. She intrigued him, allowed for him to open up and show her who he was, be himself without having resentment or hatred towards that person in the mirror. She became the one thing that could save him from himself, and in turn, he promised to never leave her, as seemed to be the pattern in her life and her biggest fear. This was put to the test when college applications were due and, despite hating New York City more than mostly everything, Ian decided to tail Jannel to Columbia University (never mind the fact that it was one of the only places his dad would pay for him to go).
The duo lived in a two bedroom apartment in The Bronx, and Ian occasionally took on volunteer jobs at the YMCA near Columbia University, where he was majoring in journalism and minoring in music theory. But, after a series of ordeals that put a heavy strain on both he and Jannel, the set decided it might be best to move back to familiar territory. Within a year, they were jet setting back to Arlington, back to their home, and have settled back into their lives quite perfectly.
